About the Artist

Hi World!

  Welcome to my Studio,

I'm a studio artist who often paints on location, but also in my studio. I prefer to work from life but I also work from my own drawings, paintings, photographs and memory. I like to search out images that have personal meaning.

I have a daily practice of creating images of where I live, real and remembered and imagined melded together as one. It is the way I explore and develop deeper understanding of our shared world. Climate change, the Wilderness experience, community living, and personal experiences are all influences that are reflected through imagery.

I have a degree in art that focused on sculptural work in clay.  I made clay murals for 20 years, drawing and painting to plan them and to do presentations for work in public spaces.  I shifted from clay to painting in the mid 1990's as a convenience for my family life.  Originally, I thought the change was temporary but I fell in love with paint, and painting, so here I am decades later still painting..

My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my work.

Thank you for visiting.  Please contact me with questions and comments. I always like hearing from people who enjoy what they see in my paintings. If you see a piece that becomes a favorite, let me know.  I hope you'll return often to visit it online.  Favorite paintings are like friends that you visit over and over again, learn from, and experience differently through the years.

Inspiration

Shapes, textures, and color found in nature is where I am most inspired, Especially near the ocean and the amazing natural features that line the Oregon coast. The rivers and lakes also but nothing matches the thrill of a day spent in close proximity to the pounding surf and stunning rock formations along the western United States. I also often work with the human figure, both from life and memory. Our place and affect on the natural world is foremost in my mind.

Techniques

Drawing, painting, and print making intertwine to create imagery of varied textures.  Each medium stands alone or can be combined with the other, drawing is the unstructured of paintings and prints as well as a finished statement on it's own.  Paintings bring the world of vast color and dimensional texture to the surface of art, two things I'm really drawn to in original art.  They communicate the hand of the artists in a way that is lost to digital work.
I am working a new line of pieces that combine digitally made marks over and under the other mediums.  Some pieces are only available as digital prints known as Giclée. Giclée indicates the industry standard for high quality, archival, digital prints..

The Value of Art

Humans have made drawings and paintings in every society during every period of our existence.  For some it is a calling, an inner drive to reinterpret the world around us into images with and without words.  Images are a universal language available to all across cultures and time. Creating imagery that speaks of personal experience that resonates with viewers is a rewarding experience, a further exploration into how alike we all are.  Our mutual likeness seems doubly important today.
